Joseph Canzani entered into the US Military at Fort Meade, MD in 1943 at age 26 and served until 1945. He served as Staff Sergeant of the 1155th Army Air Force Base Unit. He was deployed to Italy in 1944 and served as a Power Turret and Gunsight Mechanic. He received the American Theater Service Ribbon, the European, African, and Middle Eastern Service Ribbons and the Good Conduct Medal.

Canzani was nominated by his daughter, Stephanie Canzani. “Upon returning from service, my father was very generous to his community in Little Italy in downtown Baltimore until he passed away in 1982. He opened Sabatino’s restaurant, which is still there today, and was popular among celebrities that visited town such as Frank Sinatra and Vice President Spiro Agnew.”

Stephanie Canzani chose Platoon 22 to receive the donation made by NFM Salute in Joseph Canzani’s memory.
